September was a whirlwind month at The Violet Chocolate Co. With the 2nd annual Canadian National Chocolate Awards taking place in Vancouver from September 23-25, I decided to quietly enter a couple of my favourite products into the competition.
I was fortunate enough to be in Vancouver for the awards ceremony on September 26. I viewed going to the awards as a great networking opportunity and a chance to see the wonderful things that were happening in Canadian Chocolate. Winning an award definitely was not on my radar for the night.
While presenting the awards, David Mincey who was a member of the grand jury was talking about how much the judges love to give awards to new companies they've never heard of for an excellent chocolate. He then followed that by announcing The Violet Chocolate Company had won Gold for it's Honey Rosemary chocolate bar! I was absolutely shocked (and very flustered) when I finally realized what he had said.
It's still a bit of a shock to have won such a prestigious honour and to be placed on such a high level as a chocolatier. What made the win even more overwhelming was finding out I had the opportunity to compete in the International Chocolate Awards finals taking place in London in October!
